Just a warning - some of this may be TMI....
What a week we've been having. First our computer died (this was last Wed.) so we were without it until today. If you know me you will know it was total hell to be without my internet! Then my husband's car died. We have to wait for awhile to get it fixed because it'll be expensive. Then I had to go to the ER (I'll get back to that in a minute.) Then on Tuesday our big screen TV died. It's been a crappy week!
So, I had to go to the ER last Thursday night. I had been on my period for about 2 weeks (which I've already told you guys), but the bleeding was extreme. For instance, I would go to the restroom, sit down and blood would literally pour out of my body and into the toilet (or on the floor, I know - gross, right?) So I called my old gyn and they sent me to the ER. My mom (God I love her) went with me. She's an MA and used to work in that hospital so she's comfortable being there and my husband was too freaked out to go with me. They hooked me all up to IV's and monitors and shoved a catheter up in me (really fun!) They had to do ultrasounds, both external and internal. I have never had an intrauterine (or whatever it's called) ultrasound done and OMG I never want it done again. Talk about uncomfortable!! I couldn't wait for the guy to finish it up. They also did a bunch of bloodwork. Of course it's what the other doctor told me before - PCOS. The doctor said both of my ovaries are covered with cysts which is what was causing me to go from having no period for 9 - 10 months to having a period for the entire summer. They put me on Provera to stop the bleeding and I have an appointment with the gyn tomorrow. My sodium level was also really high, my potassium and calcium too low and I am slightly anemic. I'm glad I know what's wrong now, but man it sucked being stuck to a catheter for 6 hours in a cold hospital. I was not a happy camper. God bless my mother who was there during the entire thing. Poor Will was really scared when I got home. I went in at 6pm and got home around 2:30am. He had cleaned the whole house, and rearranged 3 closets while I was gone.
So I have to work hard at losing weight. This can turn into cancer or diabetes. I can't wait to see what the gyn tells me tomorrow.
Bleh... fun times.
